Class Title: “A Special Home”, A Shadowbox Pendant Project
Class Description: How do you house your favorite stone, image, or other treasure? Special objects need a special home in a shadow box pendant. This metal clay class is designed to cover box construction and construction of natural forms from the forest and sea. You’ll also learn about how to capture different textures and learn how use two-part mold compound. Students will learn how to build a round shadow box pendant. You will construct a pendant with texture on all sides. The top panel is an open frame designed to reveal the treasures inside the shadow box style of construction, and the back is decorated with surface treatments. You have the option of making the project as is or making your own version using your own treasures.
Material and Supplies for students to bring: Scotch™ tape, metal clay roller, pencils, reading glasses, rubber stamps, scissors
- PMC+ or PMC3 at least 28 grams or more, More is better.
- Two-part mold-making compound – individual sizes
- Basic PMC tool kit
- Ring mandrel, dowels or other round form
- ExactoTM knife and extra blades
. Please bring lots of textures, found objects, or treasures to make molds and use in your pendant.
Bring lots of small treasures to make molds of and to put inside of your shadow box. Remember these items will be fitting inside your shadow box so keep them small.
